Police investigate armed robbery at Wendy’s

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an armed robbery reported at a Wilmington Wendy’s early Monday morning.

According to Wilmington Police Department Spokesman Cpl. Kevin Smith, at 2:23 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the Wendy’s at 350 S. College Road after an armed robbery was reported at the fast-food restaurant.

A woman entered the restaurant, showed a handgun and demanded money, Smith said. The woman took the money, fled the business on foot, then reportedly entered a pickup truck and left the area before officers could get information from victims, Smith said.

When officers searched the area for the vehicle, they found a large amount of cash and a weapon abandoned in a grassy area between Wendy’s and South College Road, Smith said.

Officers are searching for a 5-foot-4-inch black woman in her 20s. She was wearing a dark blue, puffy coat with a fur-lined hood and khaki pants.

The investigation is ongoing.
