A Wilmington Police sergeant suffered minor injuries following a multi-vehicle wreck that sent him and three others to the hospital Tuesday night.
According to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Lucy Crockett, Sgt. Mathew Mark Malone, 34, was sent to the hospital after a truck T-boned the driver’s side of his patrol car, pinning Malone inside the vehicle.
Crockett said Malone was driving his marked police car behind a U-Haul traveling south down Third Street through its intersection with Greenfield Street.
Aaron Baines Compton III, 31, of Wilmington, was driving his 2005 Ford pickup truck down Greenfield Street when he ran a red light through the intersection, clipped the back of the U-Haul truck, spun and hit Malone’s vehicle, Crockett said.
Crockett said 49-year-old Timothy Allen Sosbe, of Kure Beach, was driving the 2013 Ford U-Haul van and had one male passenger in the vehicle.
The officer, Compton and two passengers—a woman and a child–were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical center to be treated for minor injuries.
Compton was cited for a red-light violation and reckless driving.
