WILMINGTON — The Federal Highway Administration has announced a $3.2 million grant to assist in the rebuilding of North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, which was hit by Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight on September 16, 2024.
District 7’s representative Congressman David Rouzer announced the funding in a press release Friday.
“PTC-8 caused significant damage to infrastructure across the district,” Rouzer wrote in the release. “This grant is essential to helping our communities recover and rebuild. I’m grateful to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and the Federal Highway Administration for prioritizing the needs of Southeastern North Carolina.”
The historic storm dropped more than 20 inches of rain in less than a day. It collapsed many roadways in Brunswick County and left motorists stranded along Highway 17 for hours on end. This included Brunswick County government and schools workers who were at work upon the storm’s arrival. In New Hanover County more than 120 people and nearly 20 animals had to be rescued from floods.
