New H.O.P.E. CDC will open applications on Nov. 17 for people seeking financial assistance for past-due rent, utilities in arrears and essential car repairs.
The program, called H.O.P.E. School Zones, is in partnership with the United Way of Cape Fear and is funded by The Endowment. It’s open to families whose kids attend:
- Virgo Preparatory Academy
- Freeman Elementary School
- Snipes Elementary School
- Gregory Elementary School
- Williston Middle School
- Forest Hills Elementary School
- New Hanover High School
“This program does two things,” according to New H.O.P.E. founder Robert Campbell. “It addresses people’s immediate needs, helping them take a burden off their shoulders right now, but it is also a big investment in their future. We are ensuring that financial struggles do not stand in the way of a child’s education or a parent’s ability to work. We recognize that many families are one financial setback away from being overwhelmed, and by addressing these challenges, we remove significant obstacles to stability and growth.”
New H.O.P.E. CDC focuses on empowering families and strengthening communities through economic and housing stability. It has helped with rental assistance previously for people who live in workforce housing. Campbell is also behind the Covenant Family Community workforce housing on Blue Clay Road, as well as an affordable senior housing complex.
The School Zones applications can be accessed here, open to families that meet certain salary benchmarks: $55,000 for one person, $63,500 for two people, $71,400 for three people, $79,350 for four people, and $85,700 for five people.
Funding is limited, so it’s encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
