Brittany Wilkinson, 28, and Matthew Tuttle, 28, were married Saturday, May 6, 2017, at The Atrium by Ligon Flynn, Wilmington.
Matt and Brittany started riding the school bus together in August 1996. Matt gave Brittany a note that said, “Will you be my girlfriend? Check yes, or no.” The young love was short lived and came to an end when Matt moved away with his family to Russia.
Contact was lost throughout the years. Fast forward 15 years later to July 4, 2011. Brittany and Matt were celebrating the 4th of July on Masonboro Island, off the coast of Wilmington, each with a group of friends. They were walking on the beach and happened to walk pass one another, their eyes met, their mouths dropped; they were both in shock that after 15 years, they recognized each other! Numbers were exchanged and from that day forward they were inseparable.
After over four years of dating, Matt decided the time was right to ask Brittany to marry him. Matt rallied Brittany’s family and friend, Madelyn, in on the fun. They told Brittany on Christmas Eve, South Mebane, the elementary school they had went to was being torn down due to mold. They knew this was the only way to get Brittany over to the school to see it ‘one last time.’
Brent (Brittany’s twin), Madelyn, Matt and Brittany went over to say their goodbyes and take a few photos. They were taking photos in front of the school when Matt confessed it was a lie, knelt down on one knee and asked Brittany to marry him.
