Former Hoggard High School and N.C. State punter Wil Baumann has received an invitation to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 17-23 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The scouting combine is a weeklong showcase, where college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches, general managers, and scouts, according to the NFL.
Baumann, a four-year starter for the Pack, is one of 12 specialists from across the country to receive an invitation to the weeklong event.
He set N.C. State career marks for most punts (258) and punting yards (10,526) during his senior season–both of those marks rank sixth in ACC history, according to a new release from N.C. State Athletics. Baumann ranked fifth in the FBS this season in punting with an average of 45.8 yards, the top mark in the conference along with his 20 punts of at least 50 yards.
The former Hoggard Viking was named the Ray Guy Player of the Week after the Pack’s Presbyterian win – four punts for an average of 55.2 yards. He was the first N.C. State punter to earn All-ACC accolades since Tim Kilpatrick in 1992, according to a press release from RayGuyAward.com
The last Wilmington native to participate in the combine was Hoggard alumni and former North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper, a first-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.
Former Hoggard place kicker Connor Barth was also in the thick of the NFL playoffs this year after signing with the Denver Broncos for the late-season push.
