WILMINGTON — Catching a show at Thalian Hall just became more accessible for everyone in the Cape Fear region.

The historic downtown theater is introducing a “Pay-What-You-Wish” ticketing program, a move designed to eliminate the cost barriers that can keep community members away from the performing arts. Supported by TD Bank, the initiative allows patrons to set their own price for tickets to various performances and screenings.

“We are so excited to be able to offer Pay-What-You-Wish pricing to our community,” Thalian Hall CEO Shane Fernando said. “Other venues around the country have seen success with similar ticketing models; we intend this as the beginning of a wonderful venture into arts accessibility.”

The flexible pricing isn’t limited to a specific genre and covers a wide swath of the theater’s programming, including:

  • Major touring acts and live performances.
  • Film screenings in the ballroom.
  • The theater’s high-tech, 360-degree digital shows.

The program kicks off with two upcoming shows this month: the Bluegrass Bash on March 27 and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Great American Crooners on March 31.

Those interested in the program can secure tickets by filling out a digital form on the specific event page at Thalian Hall’s website or by calling the box office directly. Because these tickets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, theater officials recommend acting quickly as supplies are limited for each show.
