CAROLINA BEACH — Celebrating the arts on Pleasure Island in 2026 will come with varied outreach programs and exhibitions, hosted by the Island Arts Council.
IAC announced programming has already kicked off this year with healing arts workshops. Clay Community Healing Arts takes place through March 22 and is an 8-session program free to Pleasure Island — Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Fort Fisher — residents who have experienced cancer. The program is taught by Carol Geary.
Three workshops covering “Visual Art for Self-Expression” also are being hosted in March and April for members of the Pleasure Island Post 129 American Legion. The sessions will include making 2D art for emotional healing, also free.
Then in the dog days of summer, “Rooted in History” will open at Fort Fisher State Historic Site, welcoming 100 artists from New Hanover County to showcase original 2D and 3D works. The goal is to highlight the history and culture of the island, with the exhibit on display from Aug. 1 through 15.
Also in the planning stages this year, the IAC is working on a new community sculpted art project and a holiday culinary event. More information about the council, how to volunteer and its events can be found here.
