WILMINGTON – A program hosted by Cucalorus Film Foundation welcomes new applicants to apply for a statewide funding program that supports indie filmmakers.

The Filmed in NC Fund has been going strong for a decade as part of a partnership with the North Carolina Film Office. The fund offers financial support to filmmakers and media artists who are year-round residents of North Carolina.

Unlike the state’s Film and Entertainment Grant program supporting large projects, the Filmed in NC Fund supports focuses on those with a smaller budget, of $1.5 million or less. Awards are gifted to narrative and documentary projects in increments of $300 up to $3,000 per project.

The deadline to enter the 2025 round is Oct. 8, 2025.

“North Carolina has a rich legacy of independent filmmaking going back to Early Owensby and even Dino DeLaurentiis,” Cucalorus Executive Director Dan Brawley said in a release. “The Filmed in NC Fund continues that tradition by uplifting bold voices and supporting creative risk-takers and building our industry from the ground-up.”

Filmed in NC Fund is open to projects at various stages of production and welcomes emerging and established artists to apply. Priority is given to women, filmmakers of color, and LGBTQ+ identifying filmmakers, though all applicants are considered.

Applicants will be notified in the fall, with awards announced during the 31st annual Cucalorus Film Festival, taking place Nov. 19 – 23, in downtown Wilmington.
