The woman’s name is not being released until her family can be notified. Police did say that the woman was a Wilmington resident who lived on a boat in the area. According to Wilmington Police, no foul play is suspected.
The death does not appear to be related to an incident two weeks ago, where a woman was found in the Cape Fear River south of the Isabel Holmes bridge. Two weeks ago, Wilmington Police Officer Ben Galluppi rescued an unnamed woman in her 30s who was spotted unconscious in the river; she was given CPR and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Although that woman was not identified, police confirmed she is not the woman found dead this morning.
