WILMINGTON —Shakespeare on the Green’s youth company begins its annual season in celebration of its fifteen-year anniversary.
The Cape Fear Shakespeare on the Green (CFSOTG) youth company will be celebrating its fifteenth year anniversary with its annual performance. This year’s production is “Shakespeare on a Midsummer Eve,” a collection of four abridged Shakespeare plays.
The stories range from comedies like A Midsummer Night’s Dream and A Comedy of Errors to more dramatic tales like Macbeth and The Tempest. The show is directed by Cherri McKay.
The youth company half of CFSOTG was created as part of the P.E.T. (Performance Education in Theatre) Project. The company offers opportunities for young people to be exposed to Shakespeare and educated in classical performance and drama.
Shakespeare on the Green has provided free drama since 1993 with its ticket-free admission, relying solely on donations from attendees and patrons to provide a free experience for audiences with the works of the Bard. The company prides itself on its emphasis on free entertainment, allowing them to provide to underserved audiences.
Alongside the youth company, CFSOTG’s adult company will be hosting its 27th season with a performance of Love’s Labour’s Lost, a Shakespearean comedy of love, wit, and gender. It is directed by Zeb Mims.
All performances for both companies will take place at 8 p.m., with the gates opening at 6:30 p.m., at the Hugh Morton Amphitheater at Greenfield Lake. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picnics or enjoy snacks from the concession stand. Admission is free for all performances.
