WILMINGTON—Great bread is the start of any great sandwich.

At Great Harvest Bread Company, customers can now expect a match made in the kitchen. The Wilmington location has unveiled its new sandwich line and expanded seating options.

The new sandwich line includes a vegan option – the veggie three seed hummus sandwich – as well as fresh deli cold cuts.

Since last summer, the franchise has been under the ownership of Jodie and Eric Hawthorne. Customers have been able order gluten-free options and fresh bread made within 24-hours under the leadership of the Hawthornes.

“We have the freedom to do whatever we’d like,” Jodie Hawthorne said.

Now, the husband-and-wife-duo have rearranged the shop to accommodate additional seating for Great Harvest’s new menu.

Hawthorne said the sandwich options incorporate sauces made in-house, including a spicy chipotle yogurt sauce.

“They’re made from scratch and care just like our bread,” Hawthorne said. “The same effort goes into everything that goes in the sandwiches.”

Soon Great Harvest hopes to heat up the oven.

“Maybe in about a month or so we want to add hot sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches,” Hawthorne said. “Cold only for now.”
