Farmers Markets around the region ready for opening

With spring officially having arrived, seasonal Farmers Markets are starting to open

WILMINGTON — After a long and unusually cold winter, spring has finally arrived and while the warmer weather is something to look forward to, spring also marks the return of farmers’ markets in the region.

With several of the local farmers markets in the region opening this week, Port City Daily has complied a list of different markets around the region, and when shoppers can start buying fresh local produce.

Port City Produce

With two locations in Wilmington, Port City Produce offers customers a selection of local fruits, veggies, and other goods to shoppers. The Market Street location is scheduled to open this week, with the company’s website aiming for March 21, but according to a social media post, the date could be delayed a few days due to weather.

Open Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Lewis Farm Market

Lewis Farms offers a range of fresh berries, plants, and home-made ice cream to visitors and is opening Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. While known for its U-pick berries at its Gordon Road location, due to weather the U-pick season is expected to begin March 28.

Riverfront Farmer’s Market

The Downtown Wilmington Riverfront Farmers Market season is just around the corner with the first weekend of 2018 operation on March 31. The farmers market is held every Saturday, with exceptions for Riverfest and the Azalea Festival until Nov. 17.

The market runs from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. and offers a range of different local vendors, with goods of all kinds. Located in Riverfront Park on Water Street, across from the Federal Courthouse.

Carolina Beach Farmers Market

Although not opening until May, the Carolina Beach Farmers Market is another option for fresh produce and other goods in the region. Opening May 27 and running each Saturday until October at Carolina Beach Lake.

Wrightsville Beach Farmers Market

Another late opening, the Wrightsville Beach Farmers Market begins May 14 and will run each Monday until October. The Wrightsville Beach Farmers Market will be located next to Town Hall on municipal grounds.
