Dixie Diane Simmons, 84, passed gently from her earthly life Monday, March 16, 2026.
She was born December 30, 1941 in New Britain, Connecticut, the daughter of William Gregory and Myrtle Chavis Gregory. In addition to her parents Dixie was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl Simmons and Dean Simmons; and brother, Barton Gregory.
Dixie is survived by her son, Bobby Simmons and his wife, Michele; daughters, Christy Moore and her husband, Adam and Wendy Mossolle and her husband, Lee; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jackie Gregory and her family; extended family members, and friends.
Dixie will always be remembered for her gift of storytelling and her remarkable memory for dates, details, and events. She loved sharing her stories and had a special way of bringing the past to life. With each new story she told, it felt like uncovering something precious, because we learned more about her and our heritage. Her stories are gifts we will hold onto. She loved her family deeply and poured her wisdom, strength, and faith in Christ into their lives. She found joy in sewing, crocheting, and especially in her genealogy research, where her love of family and history came together. Her final crocheting project was a blanket she was working on, made from yarn her daughter-in-law had given her.
Dixie was a bright light in this world, known for her spunkiness and generosity. She was excellent at giving advice and never hesitated to tell you the truth. You were never left wondering what she was thinking! When leaving her presence, you felt the genuine love she had for you. She made you feel like you were the only person in the room. But it was her laughter that lingered in your heart the most—a signature giggle that, once heard, made you feel that all was right in the world.
Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace, resting in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior—made whole, joyful, and surrounded by eternal love.
Shared memories and condolences may be sent to the family here.
