WILMINGTON — Marilyn M. Neal, beloved wife, mother and a friend, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on March 12, 2026, after many courageous battles with cancer. She was a fighter and an inspiration to the end. She never once complained.
Marilyn was born on January 21st, 1953, in Lexington, Virginia to Richard and Alma Lawhorn. After graduating high school, she worked as a medical activity therapist. She moved to North Carolina with her husband, Mike, and her daughters, Jennifer and Andrea, in 1984.
Marilyn was the cherished wife of Robert ‘Mike’ Neal for an amazing 50 years. This was a testament to their enduring love and lifelong partnership. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Jennifer Burns, and Andrea Neal, both of whom preceded her in death. They were the love of her life.
She is survived by her four sisters, Barbara (husband, Doug) Peggy, Debbie, Carol and her brother Ted. Also, Brother and Sister-in-law David and Cathy Neal. Marilyn is also survived by her nieces and nephew.
Marilyn touched many lives with her generosity and thoughtfulness. She always had a positive outlook on life. She will be fondly remembered for uplifting statements like ‘Keep on keeping on”.
Marilyn enjoyed working in her yard, boating, and taking long walks. She also enjoyed having lunch and dinner with her friends. Her laughter lit up a room. Gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
Loved forever, forgotten, never.
