WILMINGTON — Frances Lena White, 71, of Wilmington passed away at home on Tuesday, February 17 after a brief illness.
Frances was born on January 2,1955 to the late Charles Edmond White Jr and Dorris Byrum White of Hertford, NC. She is survived by sister Martha Elizabeth While, brother Charles Edmond White lll, nephews Charles Trent White and Henry Sutton White, and furry companion Ellie Mae.
Frances attended Perquimans County High School where she was class salutatorian, editor of the yearbook and member of the PCHS Marching Unit among other activities. Frances was a proud alum of UNC Chapel Hill where she earned a degree in art history. She also earned an associate degree in architectural design from Pitt Community College. Frances moved to Wilmington as one of the first employees of McKim and Creed. Later she was a partner at Structural Systems Inc. for 29 years. Recently, she was employed by Steelsite.
Frances was a true social butterfly with a large circle of friends in Wilmington and beyond. Always ready for the next adventure, get together or celebration, she truly enjoyed her many friendships. An active member of the local running community, she participated in innumerable relays, 5Ks, 10Ks and half marathons. Frances completed marathons in Alaska, Arizona, New York, London, Berlin and was a spectator at Tokyo. Of course, she was an enthusiastic Tarheels fan. Other interests include travel, cooking and art. Her family would like to express their gratitude for the support of her friends. Frances loved you all. She will forever be in our hearts.
Celebrations of her life are planned in the future for Wilmington and Hertford. Donations in her honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
