WILMINGTON — Mark Evans Ittner, of Hubert, North Carolina, a dedicated and valiant patriot, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 79. Born on March 26, 1946, in Tucson, Arizona, Mark led a life marked by service, adventure, and deep love for family and country.
Mark’s journey began in the sunlit landscapes of Tucson, where he graduated from Rincon High School. He briefly attended Northern Arizona University before answering the call to serve his country. During the war in Vietnam, he volunteered for military service, beginning a distinguished career with the United States Marine Corps. Mark completed his initial tour of duty and later re-enlisted, embracing a lifelong commitment as a career Marine. His service was exemplified by his participation in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars, and he was recognized for his bravery and leadership with a Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal.
Throughout his esteemed military career, Mark served with honor on Embassy and Recruiting duty, embodying the core values of the Marine Corps. His contributions left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
In addition to his military accomplishments, Mark was a man of diverse interests and passions. In his youth, he found joy in raising and training falcons, and throughout his life, he maintained a profound connection with nature and animals.
Mark is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Albert Evans and Sarah Elizabeth Ittner. He leaves behind a devoted family who carry forward his legacy: his loving wife of 44 years, Lynn Ittner; his children, Tommy Saulnier and his wife Teresa, and Leeanne Piatkowski; his grandchildren, Mark Thomas and Andrew Saulnier, and Genevieve Dennis and her husband Carson; and his great-grandson, Colton.
Private family services are being planned to honor Mark’s memory.
Mark Evans Ittner will be remembered as a man of courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication—a true embodiment of the Marine Corps’ motto, Semper Fidelis. His spirit and love continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
