WILMINGTON — William (Bill) Schewe, age 76, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Born in West Point, NY and raised in Fayetteville, NC, Bill graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 1967. Shortly after, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years while stationed at Pope Air Force Base. His dedication to service was a hallmark of his character and a source of lifelong pride.
Following his military service, Bill pursued higher education at UNC Pembroke before transferring to Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. He earned his master’s degree in psychology from Campbell, a field that reflected his deep compassion and commitment to helping others.
For 27 years, Bill served as a school counselor in the Brunswick County School system, spending much of his career at South Brunswick High School. He was a trusted mentor, advocate, and friend to countless students, guiding them with patience, wisdom, and kindness.
Outside of his professional life, Bill was a devoted UNC Tar Heel fan, cheering passionately for his team through every season. His love for family, community, and tradition was evident in all he did.
Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lucretia Schewe; stepson Christopher Dudding and wife Kathy Dudding; stepson David Dudding and wife Amber Dudding; stepdaughter Lisa Dawson and husband Rodney Dawson; grandchildren Landon Dudding, Savannah Dudding, James Dawson, Will Dawson, Layla Dawson; and grandchildren in heart Cecelia Bailey and TylerAnne Bailey.
Bill’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the community he served. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering dedication, and the joy he brought to those around him.
