LELAND — Joyce Garst, 79, of Leland, NC, passed away peacefully Friday, September 19th at the Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC.
She was born March 24, 1946 in McKeesport, PA, a daughter of the late John William Barnes and Betty Jane Toal Barnes. Joyce was preceded in death by two children, son, Roger “Bud” Ray Garst, Jr. and daughter, Anita Lynn Garst, both of Leland, NC; and two brothers, Ronald “Barno” Barnes and Richard Barnes, both of McKeesport, PA.
Joyce was a longtime employee of City Optical of Wilmington. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was a favorite among her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Roger Ray Garst, Sr; brother, James Barnes of Elizabeth, PA, sister, Karen Bittner of Elizabeth, PA and sister, Nancy Horrell of Wilmington, NC. Joyce also has grandchildren Haylei Garst Bruce and husband, Rory Bruce, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Trae Garst of Shallotte, NC, and Brooke Garst Jones and husband, Chris Jones, of Shallotte. She also has 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to recognize all of the staff and nurses of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare that have gone above and beyond on her behalf and that of the family.
