Ruby Mae Henry Chadwick (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — Ruby Mae Henry Chadwick, age 100, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on August 18, 2025.

A graduate of James Walker Memorial Hospital nursing school in Wilmington, she enjoyed many years working in pediatrics, surgery, and geriatrics, and continued to extend that expert loving care and devotion to good health to her family long after retirement.

She was born August 11, 1925 in nearby Atkinson and lived in Durham from the early 1960s-90s, then briefly left Wilmington again to live with family in Atlanta, GA in recent years. She was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church of Wilmington. Ruby was predeceased by her husband David and siblings Sam Henry, Pauline Henry, Josephine Henry Hedquist, and baby boys Henry.

She is survived by much loving family including her children- Emily Chadwick Clement, David Chadwick, and Anne Henry Chadwick Moorman; sister Sara Henry; sister Josie’s children Sylvia Strickland, John Hedquist, and Sandra Hinkle; grandchildren Marie and Johnny Clement, Bryan and Matt Chadwick, and Tommy and Aly Moorman; and great-grandchildren Austin, Bryce, and Elena Chadwick.

Donations to a charity of the giver’s choice are suggested in lieu of flowers. Ruby enjoyed donating to the Humane Society, American Red Cross, ASPCA, the Democratic party, and Smile Train. Ruby’s lovely kindness, optimism, quiet strength, and especial love of children, gardening and animals of all kinds will be dearly missed.
