Ruth Diane Metcalf Scrivner (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

HAMPSTEAD — Ruth Diane Metcalf Scrivner, 85, of Hampstead, NC, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born on October 6, 1939, in DeWitt, Arkansas, Ruth grew up in a loving and close-knit family, the cherished daughter of Olive and Glen Metcalf. She shared childhood joys with her late sisters, Doris Green and Neoma Black.

Ruth graduated from high school in 1957 before attending Polytechnic College and later Ouachita Baptist University, where she met her beloved husband, David “Dana” Scrivner. They married in 1962 and built a life together first in Miami, then in North Carolina, raising two children, Diane and Doug, all of whom have preceded her in death.

A lifelong learner, Ruth earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Campbell University and was passionate about her job as Director of Registration at Sampson Community College before joining Cape Fear Community College, where she touched countless lives in student development and financial aid.

Ruth was known for her kind heart, her infectious joy for life, and her deep devotion to her friends, family, and church community at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church. She found happiness walking on Topsail Beach, reading, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and dogs.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Sea Lawn Memorial Park, next door to Andrews Hampstead Chapel in Hampstead, NC.

All who loved Ruth are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
