WILMINGTON — Kathleen “Kathie” Raymond Moore, 86, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, at The Cottage Memory Care at Spring Arbor of Wilmington.
Born in Austin, Texas, February 28, 1938, Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Rice Fuller and Harris Nathaniel Raymond; her husband of 61 years, Thomas Kerr “T.K.” Moore; and her son, Thomas Jeffrey “Jeff” Moore.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kaye Hester and husband Deryl of Wilmington, NC; daughter-in-law Amy Philipp and husband Keith of Charlotte, NC; brother Harris N. Raymond and wife Helen of Youngsville, NC; niece Robyn Karlsson (Erik) of Garner, NC, nephew Ryan Raymond of Mebane, NC, and great-niece Kayla Hill (Brandon) of Youngsville, NC; and grandchildren AB Moore of Portland, OR, Ford Philipp of Asheboro, NC, John Andy Nesbit (Adriana) of Forest, VA, and great grandson Isaac Nesbit.
Kathie moved to Charlotte, NC from Texas as a teenager and graduated from Myers Park High School in 1956. She followed T.K. to Raleigh and attended Meredith College while he was at N.C. State (Go Pack!). They were married in 1957.
For many years, Kathie was an active member of the Charlotte Junior Woman’s Club, serving as an officer at both the state and local levels, and she and T.K. were members of Christ Episcopal Church. Avid boaters, they were also very active in the Charlotte Power Squadron.
After retiring to Sunset Beach, NC, Kathie and T.K. joined Shallotte River Power Squadron, and volunteered at the Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium. They enjoyed playing golf, and were members of St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church, where Kathie served on the vestry.
Kathie was a gracious “hostess with the mostest” and she and and T.K. entertained friends at every opportunity. Their Christmas Eve Open House was a long-standing tradition, and their dinner club stayed together for more than 20 years. They had an old juke box in the basement stocked with beach music classics and loved to shag dance.
Kathie was a warm and fiercely caring friend to many, with a strong faith and a giving heart. She loved the beach, her grandchildren, and dancing the night away in her husband’s loving arms. She is sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
The family would like to express their everlasting gratitude to the entire staff at Spring Arbor of Wilmington, Amedisys Hospice, and Gentiva Hospice. Each individual’s tender care and loving kindness toward Kathie are so very much appreciated.
A celebration of Kathie’s life will be held at St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church, 4941 Main Street in Shallotte, N.C. at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 18, with Father Farrell Graves presiding. The family will receive after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church.
