BURGAW — Betty Bain Leonard, age 87, went to glory Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
She was born March 1, 1937, one of fifteen children, to Randall and Lucy Norris Bain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband for sixty-eight years, John “Shug” Leonard and her daughter, Laura Smitley.
Betty is survived by her children, Deborah Sewell (Wesley), John E. Leonard (Julie), Joy Seale (Bill), and Elizabeth Lunsford (Harold); twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandson; sisters, Darlene Moore, Mary Watson (Robert) and Frances Penny (Jesse); brothers, Jerry Bain (Rhodean), Johnny Bain and Willie Bain and many extended family and friends. Not to be forgotten is her beloved poodle, Teddy.
Living to see five generations, Betty was blessed with a loving family whom she adored. She was gifted with many talents including cooking, baking, gardening in her immaculately manicured yard, quilting and singing in the choir. Betty’s life deeply influenced those around her toward kindness, generosity and love. Cherished memories will be held dearly in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw Chapel with the Reverend Eric Hutchins officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:00 Noon, one hour prior to the funeral service.
