WILMINGTON — Lyle David Benson was born on October 26, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Dorothy Virginia (Long) and Lyle Raymond Benson. His family was his world, his pride, and his joy. He passed away on September 21, 2024 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He leaves behind his partner and wife of 55 years, Margaret Ann (Sporrer).
He was a wonderful father who was always there for his children. David enjoyed family beach vacations, fishing, and reading.
He will be dearly missed by his sons; Christopher Benson and his wife Amy, Matthew Benson and his wife Codee, and Jonathan Benson and his wife Irene. Although David was a quiet man, he cared deeply for his grandchildren; Tayler Morris (Tyler), Haley Cole (Nathan), his great granddaughter, Scout James Cole, Gavin Benson, Emmitt Benson, Arden Benson, and Coletta Benson, along with his step grandchildren; Dylan Floyd, Whitney McCoskey, and Ryleigh Gray.
David had one sibling, his sister Holly Benson Hughes (Ralph). He wished to be remembered kindly by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
