WILMINGTON — Our beloved mother, Doris D. Bender, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, and joined “The Love of her Life”, Norwood Bender, to whom she was married for almost 63 years.
Doris was born in Duplin County, NC, on November 14, 1930, to the late Graham Drew and the late Roxie Drew Hurd. In addition to her husband and her parents, also remembered is a sister, Edna Swain, a brother, Leonard Drew and a daughter-in-law, Annette Bender, all of who preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters and son, Brenda Quidley (Gary Anderson), Paul Bender, Carolyn Bender, and Judy Bender; and one grandson, Jason Quidley (Kim).
Doris and her family moved to Wilmington around 1940. She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1949. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and at New Hanover County Register of Deeds. Doris had many talents, among them an excellent seamstress and cook, needle point, growing flowers and plants, playing cards with family and friends and most of all she enjoyed being a homemaker.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Kay, Hope and Kathy. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the staff at Lower Cape Fear Life Care for their excellent care and support.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, September 30, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC.
