BURGAW — Dianne Peters Hermanson, 89, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 8, 2024. She was the daughter of Howard and Nettie Peters, and sister of Judy, Pete, and Howie growing up in Lakewood, NY, and later living in Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, Nevada, Florida, and North Carolina.
Dianne’s husband of 63 years, Roger, passed away on July 16, 2022. They made a wonderful team, with strengths that complemented each other and with a shared focus on faith and family. Dianne is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ritner); son, Dana (Heather); and grandchildren, Katie, Amanda, Tim (Michael), and Will.
Dianne was the “engine” of the Hermanson family for decades, with a life dedicated to serving others. From handling the finances and household to working on Roger’s textbooks to taking care of children and grandchildren, no task was too big or too small for Dianne. She had boundless energy and rarely sat still. Dianne served as PTA President, Senior Warden of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, and in various other service roles. No one was better at meeting everyone at an event and making lasting connections. She was the type to meet someone in a hospital waiting room and invite them to stay at the house for weeks as their loved one recovered.
Dianne enjoyed gardening, sometimes to Roger’s dismay when she would point out projects for him to do in the yard. She was always up for a puzzle or a crochet project. Even in her later years, she often surprised her family by glancing at a Wheel of Fortune puzzle for 3 seconds and solving it.
Dianne and Roger always invested themselves fully in their family and grandchildren, first in Atlanta living near Dana’s family and later in North Carolina living near Susan’s family, where they played a critical role in helping to care for their special needs granddaughter, Amanda. The infusion of love and time that both Dianne and Roger poured into Susan’s family speaks volumes about her generosity and loving heart. Ultimately, both families settled in Burgaw, NC and established a horse farm. Dianne enjoyed the peacefulness of the farm, and she loved seeing how Susan, Ritner, Katie, and Amanda all enjoyed their time with the horses.
We celebrate the life of Dianne Hermanson, and we will remember her for her love and generosity. We will look forward to reuniting with her in Heaven. We appreciate everyone’s prayers, as well as the wonderful care that Dianne has received.
The family will celebrate both Dianne and Roger’s lives in New York and Georgia. There will be a ceremony at the Rod & Gun Club pavilion at 433 E. Terrace Ave, Lakewood, NY on July 3, 2024, at 5 p.m. There also will be a celebration of life later this summer in Atlanta.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to donate in Dianne’s (or Roger’s) honor please send donations online at www.lifecare.org or by mail to: Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401
