WILMINGTON — William Shaw Corbett Sr., 79, a beloved husband, father and pillar of the community, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love and service that touched countless lives. Born on August 30, 1944, in Wilmington, the son of Robert James Corbett Sr and Edna Shaw Corbett.

William’s professional journey spanned 34 years at GE as a fuel bundle inspector, where his dedication and hard work earned him the respect of colleagues and admiration of many. Beyond his career, he devoted himself to his faith, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and taught royal ambassadors at Burgaw Baptist Church. His commitment to God and community inspired all who knew him.

A passionate nature enthusiast, he found comfort in watching birds and nurturing his garden with a green thumb that seemed to bring life to every plant he touched. His enthusiasm for genealogy and metal detecting sparked many adventures, each one shared with boundless joy and curiosity.

But all above, his greatest joy came from his family. He was an amazing husband to his wife for 56 years, a loving father, grandfather and friend whose kindness and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may have left this world, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

William is survived by his wife Brenda Pridgen Corbett, children; William Shaw Corbett Jr, David Stuart Corbett, grandchildren; Harry, Louise and William Corbett and sister Sylvia Corbett Jacobs.

Preceded in death are his parents and brothers David Michael Corbett and Bobby Corbett.
