WILMINGTON — Darlene Wiggs Wells, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on January 12, 2024, at the age of 71. She was born on June 11, 1952, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Donald C. Wiggs, Sr. and Esther Parker Wiggs.
Darlene spent her professional career mostly as a Professional Hair Stylist and Cosmetologist, and later as an Administrative Assistant at various companies, most recently with American Distillation Inc. in Navassa, where she showcased her exceptional organizational skills and dedication to her work. Her contributions were valued, and she will be remembered for her unwavering commitment.
Darlene grew up in Sunset Park and graduated from Hoggard High School in 1971, and later graduated from Mr. David’s School of Hair Design. She cherished her time in school and made lifelong friendships during those formative years.
In her personal life, Darlene was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Wommack Rooks. She was also a caring sister to her brothers, Donald C. Wiggs, Jr., and Wayne Wiggs, as well as her sisters, Marie Wiggs Male and Kay Wiggs Malpass. Darlene’s love extended to her nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, who will deeply miss her presence in their lives.
A time to honor and remember Darlene will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
Darlene Wiggs Wells will be forever remembered for her kind heart, dedication to her loved ones, and her commitment to her work. She leaves behind a legacy of love and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
