WILMINGTON — Clyde “Buddy” Willis Harrelson II passed away at home on August 5, 2023.
Buddy was born on November 6, 1935 in Nichols SC to the late Clyde Harrelson and Alyce Funderburk Harrelson. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Elizabeth “Libby” Reaves Harrelson; son, Clyde “Chip” Harrelson III; daughter, Amy Harrelson McMillan and husband Brant; sister, Frances Harrelson Hubis; sister-in-law, Priscilla Coleman and very dear friend of family, Regina Reaves Alexander. Grandchildren Travis Harrelson (Laurel), Samantha Davies (Will), McKenzie Warner (Austin), Jesse Gales, Dane Gales (MaKenzie), Great Grand Kids; Trenton Davies, Abigail Davies, Maddison Davies, Emma Davies, Riley Davies and Kaiser Gales and many nieces and nephews.
Buddy started Harrelson Marine/ Oakwinds in 1951 and ran it until he retired in 1995. He also owned and developed Seapath Yacht Club and boatatminium in 1978 and ran it until 1981. His pioneering spirt and innovation led to many original ideas and patents. His giving spirit was apparent in his commitment to the community. He started Boy Scout Troop 237 in 1964 and was Scout Master for 17 years and Buddy was awarded The Silver Beaver. Buddy mentored many men during their formative years. He will be remembered for his amazing woodworking skills, his quick wit, his adventures with the Boy Scouts and his love of family & the outdoors. He leaves a big hole in many lives. We will miss his smile and his nicknames for everyone. He never called anyone by their real name and told stories which always had a life lesson in then and you did not even know it. There will be a time of gathering announced at a future date.
