Donald Edward Bedson, 92

WILMINGTON — Donald Edward Bedson, born June 19th, 1931, to Gladys and Harvey Bedson, in Queens, NY.

He served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1955. He had a fulfilling career as a foreman for the Long Island Railroad and as a electronic technician with Grumman Aerospace. He met and married the love of his life, Lorraine Bernadette Keeshen. They celebrated 65 wonderful years together and raised five children, Scott, Kathy, Stephen, Jimmy, and Dianne. They were gifted with 4 daughters-in-laws and 2 son-in -laws who blessed them with 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Donald took every opportunity to teach his children and create lifelong experiences with them through his love for the outdoors. Camping, boating, fishing, and hunting were among his favorites. To fuel his compassion for helping others he volunteered 30 years as a fireman to the Brentwood NY fire department. When it came to dependability, Don was your man! He was a creative and resourceful man with expert machining and engineering skills. This led him to always having a project to complete and a problem to solve. He created modern water pressure – gauges for NY fire trucks, rebuilt old washer machines for neighbors, turned patios into ice skating rinks, and even installed a train horn in his old Chey pickup truck just for the fun of it. His passion however, was nature and wildlife photography. The best days were spent with Lorraine cruising the countryside in search of his next great photograph. Don’s strong personality and intelligent outlook on life will always be remembered and cherished by his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and his love, warmth and strength will be with us always. To the husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that we all needed God Bless you and may you rest in peace. Our Love Always

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 14, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior. Burial will follow at Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
