SOUTHPORT — Barbara Ann Somogyi, 83, of Southport, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on April 20, 1939 in Painesville, Ohio to the late Anton and Anna (Schwab) Gyure.
Barbara taught Junior High School for 30 years in Mentor, Ohio Public School System as a Social Studies teacher. Barbara loved dogs, especially her six Corgis, but had an affinity for all animals.
Survivors include her sister, Malinda Gyure Slawuta (Alexander, Sr.); nephew, Alexander Slawuta, Jr. (Laura); her niece, Susan Slawuta Wade (Rick); her three great nephews, Thomas Creal, Ryan Slawuta, and Evan Slawuta.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband, George Julius Somogyi; her daughter, Maria Lynn Somogyi; and her nephew, Gregory Sanders Slawuta.
As per her request, Barbara will be cremated and interred at Riverside Cemetery in Painesville, Ohio without services.
