Annie Laura Keith Spivey, 96

WILMINGTON — Annie Laura Keith Spivey of Wilmington, NC went to her heavenly home on Friday, February 4, 2022, joining loved ones and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Laura was born on August 3, 1925, in Rocky Point, Pender County, NC to the late Charles Powell and Katie Clark Keith. Laura was a homemaker who raised five children with her late husband Houston. In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Lynwood, William (Bill), and Edmund (Sam).

She is survived by her sister, Martha Herring; her children, Julie Hudson (Bennie) of Durham, NC, Mark Spivey of Stuart, FL, Keith Spivey of Charlotte, NC, Katie Brewster (Jim) of Pomfret, MD, and Melissa Paul (Dane) of Newnan, GA, as well as 10 Grandchildren, and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Laura’s family gratefully acknowledges the loving caregivers (Carolyn, Becky, Jane, Kathy and Karen) that have become part of our extended family through the years.

Laura will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riley’s Creek Memorial Cemetery where a service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 2pm. A service to honor and celebrate her precious life will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday May 7, 2022, at Winter Park Baptist Church, Wilmington, NC.  Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 1-2pm.

In addition to creating a loving and wonderful home for her family, she was extremely active at Winter Park Baptist Church, serving in many capacities with children and adults.  She supported the efforts of the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) in countless ways and gave her children a world vision and heart for serving in the Kingdom of God. She also served in her community organizing numerous blood drives for the American Red Cross, working many hours with the Seamen’s Ministry Center, and with international refugees needing shelter, clothing, and help with learning English.  She and Houston lived out their faith throughout their marriage by helping to plant and nurture churches, serving with Campers on Mission in NC and even as far away as Alaska.  In keeping with her Kingdom focus, her family would suggest that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made in her honor to Winter Park Baptist Church.

Laura was the epitome of the “gracious woman of noble character” described in Proverbs.  She indeed was a “woman who feared the Lord” and who “watches over the activities of her household and is never idle.”  And most of all, she was a dear woman and mother “whose children rise up and call her blessed.”
