HAMPSTEAD — Veronica “Ronnie” Lutz Robinson passed away peacefully on December 1, 2021 with her family at her bedside under the loving care of Life Care Hospice.
She was born on July 6, 1941 in York, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Howard A. Lutz and Murriell C. Brown Lutz. She and her husband, Donald S. Robinson were married in 1961 and recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. She is survived by daughter Michele D. Mock, son Brian Scott Robinson, grandchildren Corey Mock, Chelsea M. Chinn, Nicholas Robinson, Shelby Robinson and one great-grandson, Augy Chinn.
Ronnie had several passions: her family, education and animals, specifically dogs. Shortly after her husband’s retirement and move to Hampstead, NC in 1995, she became closely involved with the Pender County Humane Society. Given her background in retail sales, she worked tirelessly to establish a thrift store to generate income for the non-profit. She served as general manager of the store until 2012. Still wanting to contribute, she continued her role of making home visits to prospective adoptive “parents” to find forever homes for the animals at the shelter.
If there was one constant theme throughout her life it was the value of an education. Her mantra was never stop learning. She was a freshman at Towson College in 1961 when her serviceman husband-to-be came along. It was a whirlwind courtship and six months later they were married. Wherever they went she always continued her education, getting an AA degree From Montgomery (Maryland) Community College and a BA degree in 1985 From Salem State College in Massachusetts.
She grew up in Baltimore with an enthusiasm for sports fostered by her father. They followed every move of the Colts and Orioles. Ronnie had a four decades long interest in genealogy. Other interests included antiquing, reading, knitting, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. Possessing a beautiful voice, she sang in the Hampstead Community Choir.
Ronnie’s middle name was Joy and that is appropriate. She brought joy to everyone who knew her. She possessed an outgoing personality and easily struck up conversations with strangers, usually about dogs. A benign brain tumor surgery and a twenty-two year battle with Parkinsons disease slowed her down but didn’t crush her indominable spirit and zest for life.
Final resting place and a Memorial Service will be at the Andrews Chapel, 17730 Highway 17 North, Hampstead on Saturday, December 11th. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pender County Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
