HAMPSTEAD — Rose Marie Geddie Hardee, was called home by her Lord she loved Friday, December 3rd, in Wilmington, NC after a period of illness. She was joyfully welcomed by her beloved son, Michael Phillip Hardee, who preceded her in death in 2015.
Marie is survived by her adoring husband of 58 years and childhood sweetheart, Phil Hardee; Their two daughters, Karen Hardee Warren (Joey) of Clinton and Elizabeth Hardee Howland of Hampstead; Her dearest grandchildren; Allyson Marie Warren, Joel Phillip Warren (Amy), Andrew Michael Hardee, Ashley Elizabeth Hardee and Jonathan Caleb Howland. The last couple of years she was able to experience the indescribable joy of becoming a great grandmother to Lucy and Reid. Marie is also survived by her sweet sister and best friend, Betty Geddie Hill and special daughter-in-law, Wendy Fletcher-Hardee. She was loved by many dear sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Marie considered her family her greatest blessing and there was nothing on Earth she loved more.
Born on August 29, 1944, in Wilmington, NC, Marie was the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude Geddie. She was the second eldest of five children (Ruth, Marie, Thomas, Betty and Ernest).
Marie graduated from Topsail High School and she began working at James Walker Hospital in Wilmington, NC and later worked as a mail carrier. She happily married Phil at the young age of 19 and was so excited to be married and start a family of her own.
Marie and Phil were married in 1963 and shared 58 years of devotion to one another. They loved to travel, watch old westerns, and spent their marriage raising their beautiful family and instilling in their children and grandchildren a strong faith and family values that will be passed down for generations to come.
She was devoted to her faith serving her home church, Barlow Vista Baptist Church, in many ways over many years always willing to do what was needed for her church family and community. She loved volunteering at the 4C’s Food Pantry in Hampstead, assisting in Vacation Bible School every year and served as church secretary for a number of years. Marie was a self-taught piano player, bookkeeper for her son’s business and could finish a new Nicholas Sparks book the same day it was available to buy. When her daughters and granddaughters would visit, she loved to watch crime shows, share a Hallmark movie, complete crossword puzzles and could never pass down a day of shopping or pampering with a lunch outing.
A service of her life and resurrection will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Barlow Vista Baptist Church, 22340 US-17, Hampstead, NC 28443, with Reverend Danny Justice and Reverend Marty Johnston officiating. Burial immediately following. The family will receive friends at the church annex after the service.
While her family will miss her their real-life Angel on Earth, we are comforted by the hope and promise of heaven through Jesus that her body is completely healed, and that we will one day be reunited with her again.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff, nurses, and physicians of Medical ICU at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and close family friend and nurse, Pam Padgett, for their unending kindness and compassion they provided the family and Marie during her stay.
The family would appreciate the sharing of memories, and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Barlow Vista Baptist Church.
