Grant Thomas Wiedmeier, 17, sportsman and accomplished woodworker

Grant Thomas Wiedmeier

WILMINGTON — With deepest sorrow, we announce that Grant Thomas Wiedmeier, 17, died Saturday, May 8, 2021, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

He was born July 30, 2003, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Kirk and Meagan (Alexander) Wiedmeier. He was a senior at Topsail High School. Those who knew him, for even a short time, knew what an amazing and unforgettable young man he was. He was an incredible son, amazing big brother, fierce protector of those he loved, loyal friend and hard worker.

He never met a stranger, and he would quickly smile and make a friend of you upon meeting, and you would be a friend for life. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was one of the kindest souls ever to walk the earth. He had a hilarious sense of humor and could get a room going with one of his impeccably placed one-liners. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and you could count on him to be there and give the shirt off his back.

Boise was always his home, and he had a huge network of friends and family there. He loved the BSU Broncos and was a fan for life. He had recently moved to Wilmington and had finally found his niche. He had a fantastic group of friends who really helped him feel like this was his home and a place where he fit in. He was an amazing cook and loved to try new foods. He was also an accomplished woodworker and made many beautiful projects, including a magnificent mahogany swing as his senior project. He had a love of the outdoors and was a true sportsman. Any chance he had to go hunting or fishing, you could count him in. One of the proudest moments for him was bagging his first wild boar this fall.

He is survived by his parents, Kirk and Meagan Wiedmeier; sister, Katie; and brother, Fletcher. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Jim and Susan Alexander; paternal grandparents, Del and Sue Wiedmeier; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, outdoors in the grassy area next to Scott’s Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scott’s Hill Loop Road, Wilmington. Please bring your camping chair, wear your camo, and bring your duck calls so we can celebrate Grant’s life “Grant Style.”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the family at There will be envelopes at the service, and the family asks that at any time you have memories of Grant that you please send them along as they will be helpful in the difficult coming months.
