WILMINGTON — Jackie Wayne Aikens, 69, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020.
Jackie was born Feb. 28, 1951, in Wilmington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Lena Lanier; and wife, Linda Swinson Aikens.
He is survived by two daughters, Melissa A. Hughes and Amy A. Horrell, and her husband, Benjamin Horrell; grandson, Bryce Hughes; son-in-law, Trevor Hughes; brother-in-law, J.R. Swinson; sister, Geraldine Creech Futrell; and two brothers, Ronnie Aikens, and his wife, Becky, and Jimmy Aikens, and his wife, Joanne.
Jackie was known for his interest in sports; in particular, his avid love for the UNC Tar Heels.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Gary Teachey will be officiating services. Pallbearers will be Tim Kuenstler, Allan Hughes, Trevor Hughes, J.R. Swinson, Benjamin Horrell and Robert Shepard, along with honorary pallbearer, Albert Ganey.
