Ginger Brenda Stephens, 80, passionate gardener who adored wildlife

WILMINGTON — Ginger Brenda Stephens, 80, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 10, 2020, following a brief stay at NHRMC, Wilmington. Brenda was born March 18, 1940, in Mullins, South Carolina, to the late Pearl Dorothy Wright Blackman and Joseph Edward Mincey.

She retired from her position after 24 years as payroll supervisor/industrial contractor for George P. Reintjes Co. Inc. to provide care for her mother and in-laws. Brenda volunteered for hospice and was an avid gardener and lover of wildlife.

She was preceded in death by beloved husbands, Jessy Schley Sr. in 2002 and Theodore Stephens in 2015; stepson, Travis Stephens; and half-siblings, Joseph and Jack Mincey and Doris Ann Reneu.

Brenda is survived by her stepchildren, Janet and Terry Padalino, Jessy Schley Jr., and Hink and Cyndi McCurley; numerous step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; special close sister-in-law, Betty Berry; and cousin, Robin Clark. Brenda will be greatly missed by her extended family, friends and her care-giving neighbors.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 17, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.
