Dorothy Kimball Miller, 90, fostered more than 100 children

WILMINGTON — Dorothy Kimball Miller, 90, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020.

She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late Harry Kimball and Iva Lloyd Kimball.

Dorothy was a lifetime member and church worker at the Sea Gate Baptist Church in the Sea Gate Community. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 73 years, Harold Hoover Miller Sr., who describes her as, “the best wife a man could ask for.” Dorothy loved her children, and she loved her extended family of over 100 kids she fostered. She enjoyed cooking for her family and spending time with them.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Finch; and son, Raymond Miller.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Harriett Wright, and her husband, Buck, and Jessica Reynolds; sons, Harold “Shorty” Miller Jr., and his wife, Claudia, Rodney Miller, and his wife, Susan, and Marcus Miller, and his wife, Halea; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family of over 100 foster children.

A family viewing was held at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington. The family will be receiving friends at other times at Harold Miller Jr.’s house at 1595 Riverbend Drive, Burgaw. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 4, at Sea Gate Baptist Church, Wilmington. Burial was held in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington.

Flowers and memorial gifts are welcome. Dorothy requested that memorial gifts in her honor and memory be given to Special Olympics North Carolina.
