Timothy Wayne ‘Tim’ Niles

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. Timothy Wayne “Tim” Niles, 53, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020.

Tim was born Oct. 6, 1966, in Wilmington to Charles and Josie Niles. In 1983, he joined the U.S. Army, serving 24 years until retirement in 2007. He served our nation honorably and with distinction in peace time and in combat. He loved the military and excelled in leadership roles throughout his career. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in combat, and he received the recruiters ring, recognizing him as one of the best recruiters in the U.S. Army.

A son, brother, dad, stepdad, grandpa, uncle, cousin, soldier, professor, program manager, and regardless of the role, he always took his responsibilities seriously. In all his actions, whether personal or professional, he never missed an opportunity to coach, teach or mentor. He always wanted to help others be better and accomplish more. He lived the tenets he messaged to others; work hard and you can accomplish anything you desire.

He advanced from a youngster working on his grandfather’s farm to eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Program Management Professional certification. He would have said, “not too bad for an old country boy from Ash, North Carolina.”

He was not just all business, he tried to have fun along the way. He was an avid outdoorsman, camping, shooting, fishing, hunting and bow hunting. He also spent many weekends riding his Harley Ultra Glide with the Central Texas, Harley Owners Group. His quick wit, sound advice and genuine demeanor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Marie Niles; mother, Josie Register Niles; brother, Charles E. Niles V, and his wife, Carol; and nieces and nephews, Jessica Craven, Chelsea Lissemore, Kaitlan Niles, Zachary Niles, Chance Niles and Courtney Niles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Emil Niles IV.

Memorial services will be held for Tim at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Lockwood Folly Community Center, 1691 Stanbury Road, Supply, with full military honors. There will also be a memorial service at a location to be determined, in the Round Rock, Texas, area, Saturday, Feb 29. An inurnment is being planned in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a charitable donation be made to an organization that helps veterans.
