WILMINGTON — Jean Elizabeth Barefoot, 89, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.
She was born June 18, 1930, in Wilmington, the daughter of Sidney Rhodes Teachey and Ruth Mae Jarrell Teachey.
Jean was a lifelong member of Pine Valley Church of God. She taught Sunday School for over 40 years starting from children to young married. Jean also sang in the choir for over 50 years and was a member of the Sonshine Trio along with her sister.
Together, with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Barefoot.
Jean is survived by her children, Bill Boyd Sr., and his wife, Lisa, and Regina Faulk, and her husband, Doug Jr.; grandchildren, Bill Boyd Jr., and his wife, Susan, Jamie Boyd, Jonathan Faulk, Sydney Faulk and Christy Hicks, and her husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Haley Boyd, Grace Boyd, Clara Hicks, Carver Hicks and Cash Hicks; sister, Mary Ruth Horrell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at Pine Valley Church of God, 3810 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. Following burial, the family will receive friends at Jean’s daughter’s home, 901 Robert E. Lee Drive, Wilmington.
