
WILMINGTON — Addie Mae Croom, 72, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, with family around her at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1947, in Greenville, the daughter of Herbert Harold Clark and Retta Mae Clark.
She was a homemaker in the home for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Sr.; sister, Verna Koen; brother, Edward Earl Clark; and sister-in-law, Cheryle Croom.
She survived by her sister, Kathy Clark; four sons and their wives, Jimmy and Samantha Croom, Tony and Jennifer Croom, Herbie and Tammy Croom and John and Trish Sandlin; adopted daughter, Rowena “Bit” Williams; brothers-in-law and their wives, Tommy and Alicia Croom, David Croom and Gene and Cecilia Croom; grandchildren, Tamara and Ryan Watkins, Tyler Croom and Nattally Best, Cameron Croom and Kayla Maplass, Jusena Croom, C.J. Croom, Austin Croom, Alyssa Croom, Herbie Croom Jr., Matthew Croom and Kaitlynn Croom; and great-grandchildren, Brandon Watkins, Courtney Watkins, Deziray Watkins, Ayden Croom, Adalynn Croom, Braiden Croom, Aubree Simpson and Justin Croom.
The family will receive family and friends for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Gibson Avenue Baptist Church, 2037 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, following with a graveside at Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Jonathan Rochelle officiating.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tyler Croom, Cameron Croom, C.J. Croom, Austin Croom, Herbie Croom Jr., John Sandlin, Frank Viti and Randy Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Powell, Lawrence Nobles, Luke Mason and Matthew Croom.
