WILMINGTON — Paul Michael Slebodnik, 78, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the son of Paul and Anna Haragos Slebodnik.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen “Kitty” Boland, whom he married Jan. 16, 1987; children, Paul “Buster” Slebodnik, and his wife, Lourdes, and Kelly Schaeffer, and her husband, Eric; stepdaughter, Paula Rogers, and her husband, Jay; brother, Larry Slebodnik, and his wife, Georgiana; grandchildren, Ashley Starkey, Jamie Whittimore, Jeremy Whittimore and Justin Rogers; great-grandchildren, Annalyse Starkey, Chelsea Whittimore, Caroline Starkey and Lucas Starkey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Burda; brother, Joe Slebodnik; and stepson, Jesse Whittimore.

Paul was a proud member of the Marine Corps League No. 1070, Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 11, New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officer Association (Gun Club) and the Federal Point Historic Preservation Society.

Paul worked as a rigger in the Steel Mills in Cleveland, Ohio. Paul served his country with honor and distinction as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington.

In recognition of Paul’s honorable and faithful service to his country, there will be a rendering of military honors by the U.S. Marines Corps.
