LELAND — James Allen “Jimmy” Hannel, 55, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 15, 1962, in Wilmington, the son of Lillie Spivey Hannel and the late Frederick Charles Hannel.

Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He held many jobs during his career, including being a truck driver and property manager among others. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He especially enjoyed time spent on his boat.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Debra S. Hannel; two sons, James Allen “Buddy” Hannel Jr. and Bradley James Hannel; daughter, Renee Hannel Nagel (Christopher); two stepsons, Jason Ganey and Dylan Ganey; stepdaughter, Julia Ganey; eight grandchildren; one brother, Tony Cartrette (Wilma); sister, Amelia Ludwig (Joseph); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. Also remembered is a sister, Debra Hern, who preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bradley James Hannel Sr., James Dwight “J.D.” Hern, Randy Travis Hern, Chris Nagel, Chris Garofolo and Timothy Efird. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Garofolo and Charles “Mack” Spivey Jr.
