
HAMPSTEAD — Maxine Williams James, 87, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at the residence of her son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Jackie.
She was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Sampson County, daughter of the late Lonnie B. and Maggie Sandy Williams. She was married to the late Gene James for 60 years.
She retired from the VA Medical Center as chief of Building Management Service, Fayetteville.
She brought two children into the world and proudly raised them to care for others and to work hard to achieve their goals.
She loved her children, grandson and daughter-in-law and son-in-law dearly. They were her life: her daughter, Connie James Witmer; son, Jeffrey Glen James; grandson, Jared Glen James; daughter-in-law, Jackie James; and son-in-law, James Witmer, all of Surf City.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, at Hampstead United Methodist Church, 15395 U.S. Highway 17 South, Hampstead. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow services in Sea Lawn Memorial Park, Hampstead.
