WILMINGTON — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close the ramp from I-140 East to westbound I-40 temporarily overnight Monday.

According to the NCDOT, “The closure is needed so N.C. Department of Transportation crews can safely replace expansion joints. They enable the bridge to expand in hot weather and contract in cold weather, avoiding buckling and prolonging the life of the ramp.”

Starting at 8 p.m. Monday the ramp will be closed until 6 a.m. Tuesday

“Traffic will be detoured to N.C. 133 North/Castle Hayne Road to Castle Hayne, Holly Shelter Road to return to I-40 West. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive carefully through the work zone and to expect possible delays,” according to NCDOT.
