CURRIE — James William Pickett, 56, passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born July 5, 1962, in Pender County to the late Henry Floyd Pickett and Barbara Garner Pickett.
On New Year’s Eve 2007, he married Beverly Lee Brannon in Wilmington. Together, they shared 18 years of love, life and laughter.
James worked most of his life in the asphalt and grading industry. He began with Dickerson and APAC, and in 1999, helped form G&H Construction — now part of Port City Paving & Grading. He was a master of his craft — greatly respected for his knowledge, ability and dedication to his work.
He loved his family, classic cars, NASCAR, classic country music and lima beans and biscuits. He was a quiet, private man who was raised to work hard and provide for those he loved.
James is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; mother, Barbara Garner Parish of Leland; sisters, Wanda Lue Pickett (Don Spann) of Leland and Judy Pickett Joye (Chris) of Wilmington; brother, Henry Floyd “Tye” Pickett Sr. (Judy) of Wingate; children, Elizabeth Virginia “Didot” Pate, Robert Henry “Robbie” Pickett (Crystal Brazier) and Lillian Christine “Boop” Pickett; grandchildren, Cody Lee Starling, Elijah Shane Mack, Shyenne Louise Mack, Jakoby Ray Caison, Aiden James Pickett, Joseph Henry Pickett and Annabelle Sophie Pickett, all of Rocky Point and Currie; sisters-in-law, Barbara Brannon of Spur, Texas, and Betty Brannon of Jacksonville, Florida; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
