Ellen Carter “Gigi” Thompson, 81, passed peacefully at home Thursday, March 29, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ellen was born Oct. 10, 1936, to the late Franklin Marian and Mary Jackson Carter in Hope Mills, N.C. She grew up alongside three dear siblings; one sister preceded her in death. She is survived by a very loving sister, Nancy Carter Smith; and brother, Franklin (Peggy) Carter Jr.
Ellen married the late Bobby Eugene Thompson on June 6, 1954. Four children were born from this union. Ellen and Bobby’s lives were full of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, love, laughter and hard work.
She had a passion for fishing and loved to fish from Johnny Mercer’s Pier at Wrightsville Beach every chance she could. She was a hard worker who worked into her late 70’s. Ellen really enjoyed cooking for and gathering with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo, bird watching (cardinals being her favorite), pool parties and traveling with family.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Franklin Marian and Mary Jackson Carter; sister, Uldine Carter Cox; husband, Bobby Eugene Thompson; granddaughter, Kristy Gregory; and daughter-in-law, Dean Kirk Thompson.
Ellen leaves to cherish her loving memory; her children, Ricky, Debbie, Beverly and Sharon; sister, Nancy; brother, Franklin (Peggy); nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and many other dear friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory, Hampstead Chapel, 11730 Highway 17 N., Hampstead.
