Craven Chavis, 69, diligent provider who always kept the faith

CURRIE — Craven Chavis, 69, passed from his earthly life Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1948, in Robeson County, the son of the late Zack and Anna Celestine Jacobs Chavis.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Craven Cory Chavis; granddaughter, Autumn; sisters, Diane Chavis and Kay Hunt; and brothers, Anthony, Marshall and Dale Chavis.

Craven is survived by his children, Windy Chavis (Tony), Jamie Corbett (Jonathan), Eric Chavis (Alasha), Shawn Chavis (Becky), Zack Chavis and Kameron Chavis; grandchildren, Steven (Emmie), Tristan, Justin, Madison, Dakota and Jaden; great-grandchildren, Brycen and Airlie; sister, Rita Grady; brother, William Danny Chavis; and many nieces, nephews and extended family, all who dearly loved Craven.

Craven was a diligent worker, owning his own dry wall company. He passed his knowledge of hanging and finishing sheet rock on to his sons and kept them busy working.

Craven loved his family and was not only a wonderful daddy, but a good provider for his large family. His strong Christian faith carried him through many deep valleys in his life; he always kept the faith.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw Chapel, followed by a time of sharing memories.
