Christopher John Greene, 61, craftsman who took great pride in his work

OAK ISLAND — Christopher John Greene, 61, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1955, in Roanoke, Va., the son of Peggy Greene and the late Dr. Roy Greene.

In addition to his mother of Greenville, S.C., he is survived by a longtime friend, Mary Francis Stoker; cousins, Robin (Randy) Scott Blackburn of Greenville, S.C., True Ray (Richard), Judy Shearon Bice (Tim) of Richmond, Linda Shearon Wistrand (Harry), Marie Shearon Bailey (Steward) and James Shearon (Pat).

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, active duty and reserves, and then had a long career in construction. Chris was a craftsman, gifted artist, steam train, and history buff, as well as an accomplished landscaper/gardener who took great pride in the creativity and details of his work, which was evident. He also loved nature and all animals.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 16, at the Oak Island Beach Cabana, 46th St. S.E.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to SOAR (Southport-Oak Island Animal Rescue).
