Harry Albert Grindle, of Wilmington, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, at NorthChase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 71.
Harry was born May 1, 1944, in Millinocket, Maine, son of the late George Raymond Grindle and Pauline Bartlett Grindle. A son, George Raymond Grindle II, preceded him in death.
Master Sgt. Grindle, a Bronze Star Medal recipient, retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving his country for nearly 25 years, including nine Vietnam campaigns. He continued with a career in civil service as an information technician. Harry was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Marie Grindle and Elizabeth Anne Meyer (Frank), both of Wilmington; grandchildren, Alexander Sylvester and Spencer Sylvester; and brother, James “Jim” Grindle (Patricia), of Belfast, Maine.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Kus officiating. His ashes will be laid to rest at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harry’s memory may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Cape Fear Council, P.O. Box 7156, Wilmington, NC 28406.
